Mercari fees explained
Mercari takes a flat 10.0% selling fee on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays, and nothing else, since the January 2025 reset removed the old separate seller processing fee. So a $50 item with $6 buyer-paid shipping is a $56 sale: Mercari takes $5.60 and you keep $50.40 by free direct deposit. To see the exact payout on your own sale, use the Mercari fee calculator.
The simplest fee in resale
Mercari runs the plainest math of the big resale apps: one flat 10.0% on the item price plus the buyer-paid shipping. There is no per-order fee and, since January 6, 2025, no separate seller payment-processing fee either. Because the percentage never changes, the effective rate is the same at every price, unlike Depop, where a fixed fee spikes the rate on cheap items.
The one thing that can bend your take-home is how you get paid. A standard direct deposit to your bank is free; Mercari's instant payout pulls the money the same day for a flat $3. That $3 barely registers on a $100 sale but eats a real slice of a $12 one, which is the honest reason to treat this as a payout question, not just a fee multiplier.
Mercari payout by sale
The flat 10.0% keeps your effective rate steady across prices. Each row is item plus buyer-paid shipping, on a free standard direct deposit:
| Item + shipping | 10% fee | You keep | If instant ($3) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $12.00 + $4.00 | − $1.60 | $14.40 | $11.40 |
| $25.00 + $5.00 | − $3.00 | $27.00 | $24.00 |
| $50.00 + $6.00 | − $5.60 | $50.40 | $47.40 |
| $100.00 + $8.00 | − $10.80 | $97.20 | $94.20 |

The buyer fee that never touches your net
Mercari also charges buyers a separate Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping at checkout. It is easy to confuse with a seller fee, but the buyer pays it on top of the price, so it never comes out of your payout. Only the 10.0% selling fee is subtracted from what you keep, which is why this calculator models seller net and leaves the buyer-side fee out by design.
Common questions
How much does Mercari take from a sale in 2026?
Mercari takes a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. That is the only seller fee: no separate payment-processing fee and no per-order fee. A $50 item with $6 buyer-paid shipping is a $56 sale, so Mercari takes $5.60 and you keep $50.40 by standard direct deposit.
Did Mercari bring seller fees back?
Yes. Mercari tested a zero-seller-fee model in 2024, then reversed it on January 6, 2025 and returned to a flat 10% selling fee. It dropped the old separate seller payment-processing fee at the same time, so the 10% is now the entire seller cut on item plus buyer-paid shipping.
Does the buyer's 3.6% fee come out of my payout?
No. Mercari charges buyers a separate Buyer Protection fee of 3.6% of the item price plus buyer-paid shipping at checkout. The buyer pays it on top of the price, so it never comes out of the seller's payout and is not part of what you keep. Only the 10% selling fee is subtracted from your net.
What is Mercari's instant payout fee?
Standard direct deposit to your bank is free and usually arrives in a few business days. If you want the money right away, Mercari's instant payout costs a flat $3 per transfer. It barely registers on a large sale but eats a real slice of a small one, which is why the payout method is the only lever left on your take-home.
